Cereal rye is the backbone of all fall food plots, its winter hardiness, tolerant to late plantings in cold soils, provides whitetails with a quality food source throughout the fall/winter, and is highly preferred by deer. It is also well known for its soil building capabilities, and provides excellent fawning cover when the plant matures the following summer. Cereal rye can be planted as a stand alone plot but it can also be broadcasted into standing corn, soybeans, Milo, and perennial clovers.
Plant 2-3 weeks before your first average frost date.
Add 50LBS of Nitrogen per acre at planting.
For small to medium size plots I recommend planting cereal rye at 100LBS per acre, good results can be achieved at 60LBS per acre with large food plots and or in low deer density
