Cereal rye is the backbone of all fall food plots, its winter hardiness, tolerant to late plantings in cold soils, provides whitetails a quality food source throughout the entire fall/winter, and is extremely attractive to deer. It is also well known for its soil building capabilities and excellent fawning cover once the plant matures the following summer. Cereal rye can be planted as a stand alone plot or can be broadcasted into standing corn, soybeans, milo, or perennial clover.
Plant 2-3 weeks before your first average frost date.
Add 50LBS of Nitrogen per acre at planting.
I recommend planting cereal rye at 100LBS per acre, good results can’t be achieved at 75LBS per acre in large plots and or low deer density areas.
