This blend is my go to blend for high protein diet that whitetails need during the spring and summer months. This blend is the perfect blend to add inches to your bucks and for making sure nursing mothers are in tip top shape and are able to get their fawns off to the best start possible. A 4 seed blend containing soybeans, lablab, cowpeas, and sunflowers. This blend has a mixed maturity, ensuring that you can add OVERDRIVE, MAX BULB BRASSICA, or BEAST MODE into the standing plot this fall, but yet the later maturing plants will stay green well into the fall months.
This mix is highly sought after by whitetails which can lead to over browsing, make sure you follow all recommendations below
Seeding Rate: This mix is highly sought after by whitetails which can lead to over browsing because of this always plant more LBS per acre than the minimum requirement. Planting more LBS per acre of this mix will not hurt the food plot or the yield, it is critical to get a even thick stand!!! For large fields and low deer density areas plant 75LBS per acre. For smaller fields plant at a minimum of 100LBS per acre. For small fields with high deer density plant at 150LBS per acre minimum*( it may be impossible to grow this mix successfully without some way of keeping the deer out until the plants are established.*)
Plant Recommendations:
Depth: 1/2"-3/4" deep
Plant into warm soils (60 degree minimum, ideally 65-70). Generally 30-45 days after the last frost date.
Fertility Recommendations: Do not add any extra nitrogen to this mix, this will only make your grass and weeds grow faster and harder to control. Follow your soil sample recommendations, but for a general rule of thumb add 200LBS of 9-23-30 fertilizer to the plot just before planting.
Spraying: This plot is meant to be a plot where herbicide usage is low, because of that fact a thick density of plants must be obtained for the plants to shade the ground and not let grasses and weeds germinate. Because this plot has no grasses in it, you can use a grass only herbicide to kill grass that is competing with the food plot. Adding a pre emergent herbicide at planting will help hold weeds and grasses until the food plot can reach full canopy.
